Finding Your Home

First-time homebuyer tax credit: As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, Congress has authorized a first-time homebuyer tax credit of up to $8,000 which is not required to be paid back over time (as long as the home remains your main home for at least 36 months before selling).

Who is a first-time homebuyer? Anyone who has not owned a "main home" in the last 3 years. What about couples? The IRS requires that both owners be considered first-time homebuyers in order to claim the $8,000 credit. Read more here.

Before starting your home search, be sure to define your specific wants and needs. Know your price range, desired home features and the location you want. Some important criteria to decide on are home size, age and condition of home, layout, orientation of home, school district and neighborhood amenities.

Looking at homes can be very fun, but it can also be very frustrating and tiring if you’re just not finding the features you want. By omitting homes that don't fit your search criteria, you’ll have more time to look at homes that fit your specific needs. So take advantage of my free customizable personal web page service where you can view photographs or virtual tours of homes that are currently on the market. This is a great way to preview homes in the area you are interested in and compare which home features and prices are available in that area. You can eliminate a lot of homes before even getting in the car, and save yourself time and possible frustration from touring another home that just doesn’t suit your needs.

I’d love to talk with you and get you set up with your own personal web page. When you’re ready to look at homes I’d love to show them to you.
